Aquascape System Components
Biofalls
- BIOFALLS create a perfect base for building beautiful, leak-free waterfalls.
- Requires only once a year cleaning when used in combination with a skimmer pre-filter.
- A non-clogging swirl chamber allows even distribution of water aiding filtration and increasing waterfall width.
- can be sunk into the ground for a stream effect or raised to create a greater water drop.
- The large volume capacity makes the BIOFALLS one of the largest biological filters on the market today (holds more bacteria which means cleaner ponds).
- A built-in rock ledge allows this unit to be completely camouflaged out of sight.
- Remove the check valve at the pump and the discharge acts as bottom drain to empty the BIOFALLS.
- The BIOFALLS is molded and comes with insertable grate tubes that double as side supports.
- Simple, uncluttered design means that no moving parts can break
Rocks and Gravel
Adding rocks and gravel to a pond solves many traditional pond problems. Contrary to popular opinion, adding rocks and gravel reduces pond maintenance. Gravel, unlike a smooth pond liner, provides surface area for bacteria to colonize. fish waste and other organic matter that settles to the pond bottom gets broken down by the bacteria living there.
Liner
A strong 45-mil EPDM liner is the best choice for most pond installations. Unlike concrete, it is easy and inexpensive to install and won't crack. The liner is covered by a 20-year manufacturers warranty. If a leak ever were to occur, a simple inner-tube patch kit can make it as good as new.
Fish
Fish, like Koi and goldfish, can be successfully kept, and even bred, in water that is only two feet deep as far north as Zone 4 (MN).
Underlayment
This soft, polyethylene fabric will last 20+ years under your liner. It is a 3-dimensional underlayment that allows gas to escape. It has a non-slippery surface and provides protection for the liner from rocks and other sharp objects, spreads easily, and saves time compared to using newspaper or sand. This is a needle-punched Geotextile, and only comes in 15 ft. width.
Plant Pockets
Design plant pockets into the base of your pond and you will eliminate unsightly plant containers. Plant pockets, around 6 inches deep and filled with soil, promote health in plant development by allowing the roots to spread through surrounding gravel, unlike containerized plants, which can quickly become root-bound.
Pump
The heart of the ecosystem. The pump circulates the water from the skimmer to the biofalls where it passes through filter mats and media. Pumps are sized to turn over all the water in one hour.
All Aquascape pumps are top quality, high efficiency pumps and come with a two-year warranty.
Skimmer
Eliminates routine maintenance for you by removing debris before it sinks to the bottom of the pond.
Allows pond construction in any location, even directly beneath trees.
Hides the pump and plumbing from view alongside your pond instead of in the pond.
Won't drain the pond down if a leak develops in the plumbing or waterfalls. The water can only be pumped to the bottom of the skimmer opening.
The pump is easily removed by loosening one screw on the discharge piping above the water line.
High-density polyethylene construction assures strength with extreme durability.
